This month’s tip comes from Shawn McGillivray, a Senior Support Analyst at DNN Corp.
In order to prevent potentially malicious files from being uploaded to a DNN site, file types approved for upload are restricted to a specific list. To add a file extension to the approved list, complete the following steps:
- Login to your DNN site as Superuser or Host
- For DNN 9, add the file extension to the Allowable File Extensions found at Settings > Security > More > More Security Settings. For DNN 7 and 8, add the file extension to the Allowable File Extensions found at Host > Host Settings > Other Settings
- Use your favorite editor to add a mime type for the file extension to the system.webServer section of your web.config. Remember to backup your web.config file before making edits
DNN Corp. now provides support packages for DNN Platform users. If you’re an Evoq customer, there are no changes to the support associated with your subscription. You may purchase a Support Package from the DNN Store.
Andrew Hoefling of Hoefling Software recently joined the DNN Community and is already making a splash. Only having been in the community for a few months he’s already presented at the Southern Fried DNN User Group, made a few pull requests that have been accepted and merged into the DNN Platform, is active on Twitter and Facebook, and may be attending and presenting at DNN Summit!
Since Andrew is new and very active within our community I wanted to interview him and learn more about his background and get his perspective on all things DNN. This spotlight area will have several types of “spotlights” and Andrew’s interview is the first spotlight feature on a community member. We hope to spotlight you in a future segment!

Let me know if there are blogs from this list that you regularly read?
If you’re attending DNN Summit in February, we recommend this training session on DNN module development from Scott Wilkinsonof BlueBolt Solutions.
We love seeing community members connecting in-person! This tweet from Aderson Oliveira documents some quality time he spent with Richard Edwards of DNN Stuff fame.
