I must have been hungry in the spring of 2013 when I came up with the concept of developing a restaurant menu module as a sample for the module development class that I taught at the Southern Fried DNN conference in Charlotte. I thought it was a good sample application to train developer who were new to DNN because it illustrated fundamental aspects of a real world module: data access operation (create, read, delete, update), module settings, and image upload.

Implementing Workflow in a Custom DNN Module

DNN introduced the Workflow API in version 7.4 which allows custom modules to leverage the core workflow processes in their custom module. You can watch the overview of the 7.4 features here. Big thanks to Francesco Rivola and Xepient Solutions for their work in this feature. I finished a code project and training tutorial for DNNHero.com on this topic. I created a module project from the ChrisHammond DAL2 C# template using the sample code in the template and layered on a complete workflow process. This project is only available to Premium DNNHero subscribers at the moment. If you’re planning on dealing with this topic, I recommend reading further and subscribing.

DNNCon 2014 Session: Customizing Your Search Results

Learn how to create customized search results that leverage DNN's lucene index data. At last year's DNNCon, Ash Prasad presented a great session about the newly redesigned search engine in DNN 7.1 and above. He discussed the search architecture, lucene concepts, and the new ModuleSearchBase class for allowing developers to inject data into the index. This year, I want to take the next step of showing developers how to create custom search results that can query the lucene data in very specific ways to present the results exactly the way you, or your client, needs them.
