New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

The use of the Community Blog is covered by our Community Blog Guidelines - please read before commenting or posting.

DNN Digest - March 2019

Editor's Note

What a month February was! Time seemed to fly by as the community prepared for and participated in the annual, US-based DNN Conference, DNN Summit. It was a great event and it was nice to connect with attendees in-person.

At DNN Summit several announcements were made that you should know about in case you aren’t aware. The first one is that the Awareness Ecosystem Advisory Group is working on a new community website, DNNSoftware.org, which will be more technical in nature and focused on the platform and community. If you’re excited and motivated to assist with this project, be sure to click the “I want to help” button and connect with the team to get started.

Another exciting announcement was that the DNN Docs team leader, Kelly Ford, announced a preview of the DNN Docs project at DNN Summit. The Docs team has been working hard for the past few months updating the Documentation project for DNN. The project is not complete, but the preview can be seen at DNNDocs.com. The best part is that the community can now build the documentation for DNN together out in the open. As the site is currently in preview mode, stay tuned for more info from Kelly and the Docs team.

During the DNN Summit afternoon keynote DNN Corp CEO, Andy Tryba, spoke about the direction of DNN and included several announcements. One announcement made was that the DNN Store will be updated in 2019. This was a well receive announcement that should bring many benefits to the ecosystem. I’m excited to see what a new DNN Store will look like!

The DNN Troubadour, Ron Miles, was also back at DNN Summit. As a result, there were a few new songs produced during and after the conference. Check out the new MVP MVC Sasquatch and the 2019 He’s a DNN Yeti Remix songs online. Ron does a great job with these and even sang for the crowd during our lunch session.

Also, the DNN Summit featured keynote speaker was Jon Galloway who is the executive director of the .NET Foundation. He mentioned that the .NET Foundation is now having open elections for the Board of Directors. Just this past week the original creator of DNN, Shaun Walker, announced his campaign for the .NET Foundation Board of Directors. More info in the “Spotlight Section” below.

DNN Digest March 2019 Spotlight

Spotlight: .NET Foundation Board of Directors Elections

In previous editions of DNN Digest, I’ve written about the .NET Foundation, how the DNN Community leverages resources provided by the foundation, and most recently about how the Foundation was opening membership up to everyone. It’s been great to see Microsoft continue down the path of embracing open source and empowering OSS contributors to make an impact.

Currently the .NET Foundation is holding the inaugural election for the .NET Foundation Board of Directors. If you are a member of the .NET Foundation then you get to vote for the BOD. If you’re not a member… you should be! The original founder of DNN, Shaun Walker, is running for the .NET Foundation BOD. Please consider supporting Shaun in his campaign. Also, it would be awesome if YOU ran for the BOD as well. The Foundation is seeking members of all skill levels, backgrounds, and is pushing for diversity on the board.

DNN Partner Spotlight

Partner Spotlight: ICATT

ICATT logo

ICATT is a internet bureau based out of Amsterdam, The Netherlands with 25 years of experience. ICATT makes web applications that support their client’s business, transforming their customer interactions, transactions, and processes into modern digital solutions. ICATT primarily focuses in the educational, governmental, and charity spaces.

ICATT’s Journey with DNN After making their own content management solutions for years, ICATT started looking to standardize on one software around 2007. It had to be open source, rooted on Microsoft and easy to expand or build on. It also had to flexible and easy to use for web editors. DNN was the best candidate and the success of the many sites we’ve built with DNN proved that ICATT’s choice in 2007 was the right one.

Areas of Specialization
ICATT specializes in customer portals that optimize work processes. These can vary from relatively straight forward websites to large project with, back office connections, standard digital Identity provider, workflow, document generations and specialist interactions for many different roles. ICATT focuses on quality in user experience, technical production, project management, and support.

Notable DNN Projects
Over the years ICATT has produced many DNN sites. One of their notable sites is Museum Card which is a promotional tool for the Association of Dutch Musea. 1.2 million museum lovers have an subscription on the card, with allows them to visit more than 400 Dutch musea for free. The site allows users to buy a card, manage their accounts, see their museum visit history, reaction to events, etc. DNN is the underlying framework for the public and private sections of the site. Check it out at https://www.museumkaart.nl

Another notable DNN project is CZAV, the largest cooperation of farmers in Holland. The site provides information, research, consultancy, specialist services and common procurement. Initially, their site had an abundance of information that was not well structured and it was spread over different sections. We helped then trim down their high page count by bringing to focus a user centered content plan and site structure. We coupled this new approach with a modern, responsive design, that fits the corporate branding. Check it out at www.czav.nl

One other project ICATT is really proud of is there work with Partners for Youth, which is a large care provider in Holland specializing in foster care and mentally handicapped youth. A couple of websites serve various target audiences with different information needs. Three years ago the sites were not responsive and the underlying content management system was very difficult to use. ICATT ported the sites to DNN and now the web editors have flexibility and understand the tools to manage their content. Check out two of their sites at https://www.williamschrikker.nl/ and https://dejeugdengezinsbeschermers.nl/
