When it says: Microsoft SQL Server 2016 (for DNN 8.0.4+)
Does that mean version less than 8.0.4, i.e. version 7.x, will not work with SQL 2016?
Or does it mean version 8.0.4 and above require SQL 2016?

John,

I would say: Versions less than DNN 8.0.4 are not tested with SQL Server 2016 (and therefore, I would not recmmend using it).

The other question: It is for sure that DNN 8.0.4 works with versions below SQL Server 2016 (at least 2014). I guess it is a recommendation, but I don't know the source of your info. Could you post a link to the page you found this?

Happy DNNing!

I'm looking to change servers, which has SQL 2016, but would rather stay on 7.4.2 for the time being. Is it not tested or won't work?

Microsoft put in massive effort to ensure that old apps are not broken by new versions of SQL server. So, even if DNN is not tested against SQL 2016, I think it would be fairly amazing if it didn't work.

Why don't you just try it?

We only started testing SQL Server 2016 with Platform version 8.0.4 and therefore that is when we 'officially' started supporting it. As noted, it may work with older versions but we can't support it.
