Turning The Page To Begin A New Chapter In My Life…

There is a famous quote that "if you love something, set it free", so it is with immense pride and emotion that I acknowledge that it is time for me to step aside from the open source project, company, and legacy that I helped create and transition my responsibilities at DNN Corp.

After nearly 14 years of working on one of the most widely deployed open source CMS platforms, the company and I have concluded that it’s time for me to seek new opportunities that build on these experiences. My passion for building products and ecosystems that make an impact on the world is as strong as ever and I look forward focusing my energy and creativity along similar lines.

During my tenure at DNN, the open source project and company achieved great success and received many industry accolades - some of which I would have never dreamed remotely possible at its humble inception. The company has grown into a mature enterprise with high quality products that are mission critical to customers worldwide. I have also been blessed with establishing many genuine relationships and trusted friendships within the DNN ecosystem which I know will endure forever.

It is inspiring and gratifying to think of the millions of people who have been touched by the DNN open source project in the past decade. I am not just talking about software developers; successful open source projects create powerful economic platforms and two-sided markets which allow entrepreneurs of modest backgrounds, education, business experience, culture, and financial resources to overcome adversity, unleash their creativity and achieve amazing things. DNN has not only changed the lives of many people worldwide - it changed my life as well.

It is impossible to count the blessings I have received over my years at DNN Corp. I am humbled by the professionalism and passion of everyone I have had the good fortune to work with at this amazing company.

I have always promised myself when the right time came for me to change direction, I would be brief, unlike my typical  lengthy CTO blog posts. And I realize that there may be some theories or speculation about my departure from DNN Corp but I can assure you that this was a mutual decision that was only made after significant reflection and consideration by myself and the company.

I’ve always believed in strong leadership during times of change, so effective immediately I will assist however needed to ensure a seamless transition.

I am very excited for what the future holds for DNN.

With my deepest appreciation,
Shaun Walker

Shaun you're the guy who taught me how to not be afraid of Open Source. My .Net career started with DotNetNuke and I owe you and the Core Team a lot. Thank you so much and good luck with your next endeavor. I hope to see you at the MVP Summit.

Shaun - I have the utmost respect for you and wish you nothing but the best! Thank you for kick starting my entrepreneurial pursuits. I have no regrets jumping on the iBuySpy Workshop / DotNetNuke bandwagon way back when! And I am just as excited today about the platform as I was then, if not more. That said, there is a piece of me that is quite sad to hear the news. Your legend lives on though (with the help of the Shaun Bobble)!

Shaun - Sincere gratitude and thanks for your commitment and loyalty to DNN and the community. It is not many people who can say they have built a product and company used every minute of the day throughout the entire world. KUDOS!

I just watched Dead's Poet Society - As the Captain said "Carpe Diem" on your next chapter!

Shaun,

thank you for what you and DotNetNuke have given me.

When you feel like it, jump on a plane, take one of my motorcycles and spend a week or two riding around Ireland.

I have jackets, gloves helmets etc, just bring yourself.

Welcome anytime.

Loved working with you these 5 years and very sorry to see you leave.
You hired me into DNN when all my tech industry work experience was in the US and none in Canada. For that I'll be forever grateful.
Best of luck outside of DNN in whatever new endeavour you take on.

The years I have been using DNN were among the best years of my life. I love the product and the community that comes with it. I have made good friends, followed inspiring conferences, and more, much more fun stuff.
Shaun: you are responsible for that. THANK YOU.

Thanks Shaun. I liked your long blog posts. Unfortunately this one was shorter, but I've read all the comments and I share the feelings that everybody expressed. Thanks for all that you've done and the good vibes you brought to the European meetings. Good luck for whatever is next. Come see us in france on Mark's motorcycle.

Wow, some news I stumbled onto. I haven't been on this site in months and stop by to this. congrats Shaun, you took it much further than I ever imagined it could go. For some reason the theme of our first MVP summit comes to mind. I remember everyone saying Shaun Walker is DotNetNuke. Good luck with what ever you do next. Leave

Back in 2004 I started working with DNN. It enabled my to setup my own business, and it has been a learningful, challenging and fun ride ever since. Thank you very much Shaun!

I am too shocked to be able to write down my emotions. Shaun Walker leaves DNN? Incredible. This would have been something like Steve Jobs leaves Apple - and he did, and came back, to be even more successful (is this my kind of hope?). Shaun, I wish you all the best for what ever you are going to do, thank you for your commitement, your ideas, which have been sparks that enlighted the fire (or even fire that sparked over) for me and all of us, thank you for _your_ great product. And I am glad to have been involved. Thank you very much! (Sorry, maybe my English is too bad to express all my emotions, but I can hardly hold back my tears).

What a legacy you are leaving Shaun. I too started working with DotNetNuke back when you were making the transition from the iBuySpy Workshop to 1.0. Well done! If you've got another project you're working on sign me up.
It's hard to wrap your head around Apple without Steve, and Microsoft without Bill, and now it's DNN without Shaun? Say it ain't so.
