"I want you money!" was the first line on the slide of my ignite session during the DNNCon conference in Palm Beach Florida on
October 19, 2013. But some lines followed: "But not for myself" and "And you will get it back".
My ignite session discussed your option to alleviate poverty by micro financing via
KIVA.org: "Empower people around
the world with a $25 loan". Start to think about the fact that more than 80% of all the people on the world have to live
from less than $10 per day. And read on.
How does it work?
The principle is simple: drop $25 in your KIVA credit, select someone who can use this as a loan (there are thousands
around the world), get informed about the progress of the work, receive payments back and when you have your $25 back,
lend it again! There is a chance that you loose (some of) the $25, but that chance is very small: less than 1%.
Micro financing only works well if the person who gets the loan is able to pay it back later. KIVA and partners
carefully select persons and groups before a loan is made. The only thing KIVA kindly asks is to add $3.75 per loan to
cover up for the costs in general, but this is a free option, you can decide to do less (or more).
DNN Community team on KIVA
Some people from the DNN community have formed a team on KIVA.org:
the DNN Community team. Currently, more than 100
loans were made by people of this team. But there is room for more! So please join KIVA and join the DNN community team.
If you do, the great news is that you do not have to deposit $25 to get started. If one of the team members (e.g. me)
invite you to the DNN community team, you will get $25 for free to get started. You can add more, but
the $25 is there right from the start. If you want to have some more background, have a look at my ignite sessions presentation on Slideshare:

How can you start?
Mail me (ep.tamminga@live.nl) and I will send you an
invitation to join the DNN Community team on KIVA. As long as budget lasts, you will receive $25 for free to use for
your first loan. I am looking forward to invite you to (y)our DNN team on KIVA!
