The DotNetNuke Community is very active across many social networks, organizations, and websites, but there is one website where DotNetNuke has a team you may not know so much about. Did you know that we have a
DotNetNuke team on Kiva, the micro-lending site? If you have never heard of
Kiva it’s really a neat concept. On the “About” page of Kiva’s website you can see a good description of what Kiva does:
“We are a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.”
I joined the DotNetNuke team on Kiva early last year after hearing Ernst Peter mention it at his session at DNNWorld 2011. Since then I’ve already made 3 loans, 1 of which has already been re-paid 100%. Of course I’m not making micro-loans looking to make a profit so when I got the full re-payment I instantly re-lent the money back out to another person on Kiva’s site. When you go to make a loan you pick anyone you like and as they make payments you get email notifications.
Our team has been on Kiva since Sept 28th, 2011. Peter Donker of Bring2Mind is the team lead and recently Ernst Peter and myself have been named "Team Captains". We have a total of 20 members on our team. At the time of this post, in just 2 short years we've already lent out over $1,600 dollars through 57 loans. This is pretty good traction and we’d like to keep the momentum going.
If you are able, I’d like to encourage you to create a profile on Kiva, join our team, and help empower individuals around the world through micro-loans.
Regards,
