New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

The use of the Community Blog is covered by our Community Blog Guidelines - please read before commenting or posting.

Changes in UX/UI for DNN

In all the years that I´ve been using DNN, formerly known as DOTNETNUKE, I´ve always seen the same thing. A very powerful dinosaur that is made by and for developers. I´ve always seen the difficulty in innovating the UI / UX, leaving aside any vision that was not its own. The mantra is repeated: Don't listen to anyone, follow your own way.

The problem with doing this is that you set aside the community, your competitors, your users and the whole world. I may be wrong in this assessment, but it´s the perception that I have from the outside.

I do not want to focus on the past and I think it´s much more positive to look to the future. A future that gives us the opportunity to change and improve.

The design of the user interface is a unique challenge that has existed for thousands of years. It started with the first tool created by humans, and persists until now, with sophisticated softwares and machine languages.

3 Changes to pose in the UI / UX

1 Live editor Text

Something that is widespread in many of the CMS: Squarespace, WordPress, Wix, and DNN included, is a text editor in the front. They are used in day to day content generators, copys, editors, designers.

Currently there are many solutions in the market that are included, since very simple options such as the case of aloha editor ,very advanced and complex solutions such as ory editor and even the own editor cKeditor 5

In DNN something similar has existed for a long time, but it has not been taken to the community version.

2 Generator of columns and sections

It is very common in several of the CMS of the market that has an advanced column and section builder.

In WordPress, editors are used to facilitate the layout of the content in a completely visual way.

3 Template manager

The DNN Templates manager is quite basic, it doesn´t fulfill many of the functions that can be requested from a CMS

A library where you can store customized modules, sections, containers ... etc. and that you can use these modules in different pages of a website or export and take them to other sites where you work.

I´m aware that all this post can be answered with such a strong statement as:

"If you like these other options so much, use them! But in DNN we do things in our way, (the correct one) "

But I believe in the power of DNN and the ability of the community to take a step forward and change things. After seeing what is being done in EVOQ, the answer is simple: you can do something like the one listed above in DNN, we just need the will and participation of all.

I love what you have written here. (Keep posts like this coming, please!) We definitely need to continue to push this conversation. Have you seen the conversation we're having about this in the Technology group? https://dnndag.slack.com/messages/C8BMJKV97

Excellent post Patricio! We need more input "from the outside" to positively influence our, historically speaking, developer mentality in DNN. I highly encourage you to join in with an Ecosystem Advisory Group and learn how this can be perhaps be channeled into an effective initiative with a fantastic positive impact.

Excellent! I'm excited by the growing out-of-the box thinking from members of the DNN Community, and I'm looking forward to where all of this can go.
