Core Modules Development Team August 30th 2018 meeting recording

The core module development team had their 5th meeting on August 30th 2018. This blog post contains the meeting video recording as well as a summary of that meeting.

Participants:

  • Daniel Valadas
  • Michael Onizuka
  • Steven A West
  • Clint Patterson
  • David Poindexter

Summary:

  • Active Directory provider is Dnn 9.2.x compatible and Steven A West has been assigned as the official maintainer for that provider
  • Forums: Ilpo Juvander may be interested in maintaining the Forums module.
  • ActiveForums: We are still waiting on a reply from Seth Folickman regarding ActiveForums.
  • Contributing.md: A standard contributing.md template has been createed in the Reports repository, that includes a link to a youtube how to contribute playlist to help people get started, this will be copied over to the other repositories.
  • Extension Catalog: David Poindexter is working on an extension catalog to collect all Dnn open source modules and related info. (more on that in other blog posts)
  • Source packages: Since the source code for modules is now easy to get from Github, there is no need to have a source package. Instead you will start seeing as we work on the projects, an Install and Debug package. The debug package would just include the symbols file and can be installed like any other module (gives line numbers in error reports that help a lot). Uninstalling the debug package would just cleanup that file and the module would continue as before.
  • Documentation: We had discussions on the pros and cons of having documentation as github wiki vs github pages. We also discussed how contributors to documentation would not need to know about Jekkyl or have a local copy of the documentation to build it in most situations.
  • Next meeting: The next meeting which is September 13th cannot be hosted by Daniel Valadas, David Poindexter offered to host it.

Contributing:

  • If you want to contribute in any way, please let me know here, all contributions are welcome: testing, ideas, programming, documentation, walkthroughs, etc.
