This is a part of my series The New Features of 2sxc 7 and introduces you to using Form-and List-Data from DNN in the Visual Query. This can then be used with Tokens, Razor or WebAPI/JSON.
Historically many developers used FnL because it was the only free option in DNN and for a long time it was also delivered as part of the standard distribution. It's still widely in use and has 2-3 features not available in 2sxc - but because the templating is done in XSLT it has become rather unpopular.
With the new FnL DataSource you can now keep using Forms and List and still use Razor, Tokes or JavaScript for your output.
Common use cases
- Existing FnL solutions where you want more features in templating
- FnL Solutions where the XSLT-Template has become to complex to maintain
The Solution: DnnFormAndList DataSource
In Short - there is a new DataSource called the DnnFormAndList DataSources. This is what it looks like in the Visual Query Designer:
Give it a Try
Go to the new Visual Query Designer - add an SQL-Module, and start playing with it!
