After all the changes at DNN Corp & the new (and refreshing) ideas about participating in the future of DNNPlatform, I
have been asked to start up the DNN Website Working Group. This is what Joe Brinkman defined as the
task for this community group: "The website group is responsible for maintenance of the community sections of the
DNNSoftware.com website that have been turned over for community management."
Great news isn't it? The community in
control of the community pages (found under the main menu item
Community) on DNNSoftware.com. I complained several
times in the MVP group that the current community information is mostly static and does not provide up to date, relevant
and actual information about the various activities, the buzz, in the community. And I also made several suggestions how this could be improved.
I should not have done that. Now "they" turned around
and said: "Well, you know what you want, here are the keys to do it, please do". (Note to self: "Keep
your mouth shut next time.")
Objectives
The objectives that I have for the Website Working Group are:
- make the community activities much more visibible on DNNSoftware.com
- display changes in the activities (growth, decline, hot topics)
- have people feel attracted to the community activities
- enable easy display of relevant community activities on any page of DNNSoftware.com and
- ultimately on any site that is interested in this info.
My idea is that the display of information will maintain itself, once it is configured. One idea to
enable this, is to create a (Open Source) dashboard module with plug-in options for data retrieval and
for data display (data table, graph) so that it can be enhanced and extended over time. A bit like the
DNNReports module,
but then with up to date technology in mind.
To get an idea
I have made a mockup of my idea of a community activity page. That does not mean that this is the
definitive solution, it just resembles some of my ideas. So any input is most welcome.
Join and start
As a start of this working group I would like to identify the area's that will bring low hanging fruit: simple changes
and enhancements, easy to execute, bringing (some) visible benefits. And in addition, a list of priorities of pages and
topics to be improved over the next few months. I expect that the main activities of the people in this group will be limited to 3-4 months of real work with some
simple maintenance and improvements afterwards.
Feel free to give a reaction if you are interested to
do some work here.
If you join this group (I hope some of you do), I expect that we will see the appreciation of the community quickly:
the results will be directly very visible with a positive effect for the health of the community!
