If you are going to be sticking around Orlando Florida after DNNWorld 2012, Chris and Will are planning a bike ride on Saturday morning, as of right now, planning to leave from the hotel early in the morning 7 or 8 am, and riding for 3-4 hours, probably 40-50 mile range. We will stop as necessary to try to keep the group together, but hopefully those people who are going to ride will at least have some prior experience on a road bike. Well, all except Will, this will be his first time on a road bike.
So you might have some questions about this whole, completely unofficial and unsanctioned shindig. So I’ll try to answer some of those.
Are you taking a bike to Orlando?
No, I am planning on renting a bike in Orlando, more info on that below.
What are the details about renting a bike?
I’m working with a local bike shop that will provide a bike for rent, along with a helmet, and even deliver/pickup the bikes to/from the hotel for $90 each. I am hoping we can get a better deal as a group, but haven’t confirmed that yet. If you need/want to rent a bike, see the How Do I Sign Up section below.
What do I need to bring?
Clothing, shoes, pedals if you want to clip in. A bike if you are somewhat local and can bring a bike, otherwise you can rent one. We also recommend that you download Strava www.strava.com to your phone and sign up for the DotNetNuke Club there. It also wouldn’t hurt to bring water bottles so that you have something to drink in the humid Florida fall.
What if I win #DNNSuperFan?
Then you, being the lucky winner, don’t actually have to bring anything except shoes and socks (the Awesome Cycle has platform pedals)! You’ll get a bike, an outfit, and even a helmet. If you win, and DON’T ride with us on Saturday you will be ostracized from the DNN community and may be lynched, so watch your back.
Where will you ride?
We are still determining the best route to go for a group ride on. Florida is pretty flat, so we are mainly concerned with tourist traffic on the Disney property, and getting out of the way of those folks by leaving early. I’ll send out details of where we will ride before the ride, to those signed up. We’re hoping for somewhere around 20 miles, leave the hotel before 8am and be back to the hotel before 1pm. We want to include as many riders to come with us as possible, so don't be afraid to join us if you don't think you are a "strong rider." We will adjust the ride as necessary.
How much does the ride cost?
Nothing, this is an unofficial unsanctioned ride, even Lance Armstrong could ride with us. There will be no random drug tests before, during, or afterwards. You just need to have arranged a bike of some sort (see rental info above).
What if I want to ride a shorter distance?
If there is enough interest, and someone who wants to lead the ride for a shorter distance, we can get two groups going, but at this point we are only planning on ride.
What if I don’t want to ride, but I want to drive a support vehicle?
If you’ve got a car, or want to rent a car, and go along with the group, we would gladly appreciate the service! Email me with the info below and I’ll help you organize.
How do I sign up?
Email chris.hammond at dnncorp.com with the subject “DNNWorld Bike Ride” (so I can find it in my email), letting me know you are in, and also so I can get you the rental information if you want/need to rent a bike.
