DotNetNuke StickyNote

While creating a new page on DotNetNuke.com that is set to go live later this week, I needed a simple way to track the changes I needed to make before I could officially open the page for public viewing.  If this had been a printed document, I would have attached a sticky note with a short list of TODO items.  In Microsoft Word, I would typically add a short list at the head of the document.

These lists make it easy for me to come back later and be instantly reminded of what work I had remaining on that document.  Typically these lists are very ad-hoc, stream of consciousness type of things.  To handle this for the new webpage, I just dropped a Text/HTML module on the page in one of the side columns.  I was not used to working with the new 3.3/4.3 release and was pleasantly surprised to find that I could edit my text in place.  No need to go into an edit mode at all.

This was awesome.  In just a couple clicks I have a new sticky note on my page.  I can edit the title and text without needing to go through a bunch of postbacks.  Now it is easy to quickly maintain my list, which means I am more likely to keep it updated.  For many people I think this one little gem will be a huge lightbulb moment.  I find that each postback required to accomplish a task increases the likelihood that I will not perform the task, or will put the task off till later.  Being able to click and instantly start typing my notes means there is almost no reason to avoid this process.  Now if I could just find a way that didn't require me to add the module to the page in the first place, I would be totally set.
