Folks sometimes wonder where I disappear to every December... so I thought I would share.
Allison & I chair the committee which runs the Holy Rosary Christmas Tree Lot. This is a major fundraiser in our community of West Seattle which raises money for our sons school and three other local charities ( West Seattle Food Bank, West Seattle Help Line and Salvation Army Hickman House, a home for victims of domestic abuse ).
This is the largest ( that we are aware of ) privately run Christmas Tree Lot in the country. This year, approximately 250 volunteers put in well over 2,000 hours to sell 2,365 trees, 2,700 feet of garland & 565 wreaths & swags between Thanksgiving and December 22. That's a lot of pine... I assure you *grin*.
In the photo above, Allison and I are presenting gift checks to each of the three charities representing our contribution last year of $2,460.70 each. This year we will donate over $3,000 each ( final accounting is still in progress ) and generate over $51,000 for the school as well.
It's a full time job for us in December. But this is a responsibility that we really enjoy. We're obligated to do some volunteer work for the school anyway, but it gives us great pleasure to be responsible for this event which helps to feed those who are hungry, care for those who are in trouble, and protect those who need loving care.
Merry Christmas to all of you!
I'll be at regular back at "DotNetNuke Central" here, shortly... *grin*
