WIN2K Strikes Again

Ran into a problem today with one of my servers. It is a DELL Dimension 8100 - P4 1.4 running Win2K Server - about 3 years old. Anyways yesterday the monitor started displaying funny so I thought I would test it by attaching it to another system and it worked just fine. Based on this diagnosis, I determined my video card was shot ( Nvidia Riva TNT2 M64 ). Coincidentally when I shut down the machine and restarted the next time, I got a CORRUPT_REGISTRY_HIVE error ( BSOD ). I did some diagnosis/research and was finally able to get it to load by replacing the corrupt registry with a clean copy ( although it lost the settings for all my programs in the process ). Anyways, I bought a new video card and installed it ( Nvidia GForce4 MX440 ). The monitor display problem was fixed but unfortunately I got a new error - INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_SECTOR error message ( BSOD ). I booted from my Win2K CD and went to Repair / Console. I ran a CHKDSK and the volume was there and all my files were there as well. I tried repairing the Win2K installation numerous ways but finally threw up my hands in despair. So, I went and bought a new new hard drive and installed it as the Master and then added my old drive as the Slave. Voila! It worked - I did not lose any data but I spent a couple days messing arround with re-installations. Again, I ask, is it no wonder that IT projects are rarely on schedule?
