Some of you may have noticed that the
Design Challenge voting for Community Favorite has been extended for a few days. You may also have noticed that there are a few additional entries in the field.
Early last week I received a cordial email, anxiously inquiring why submitted skins were not on display in the contest. Our immediate response was that the submission date had passed and that we would look forward to participation next year. However, upon further investigation... we began to discover that we did, indeed, have a technical problem and an oversight that had left one participants entries un-handled. This put us in a bit of a quandary. But upon consultation with the
UX team and the
judges, we all felt that if the entries had indeed been submitted on time, that the right thing to do was to add them to the contest.
Because the entries had not been previously handled, there was some overhead involved to ensure we had a valid contributors agreement and to configure and populate the demo portals for display. This took a couple of days to work through, so as of yesterday there are 4 new entries on display.
The Design Challenge has been underway for a while, and the chances of one of the new entries receiving the Community Favorite award is virtually nil (they simply can't get enough votes in the time remaining). Our goal was really to ensure that the community had a couple days of encouragement to continue promoting the challenge and to ensure all the skins have been seen. They will be eligible for the
category judging, thanks to our judges understanding and agreement that this was the right thing to do. And we're happy to extend the daily prize drawing for a few more lucky community members!
Unfortunately, accidents sometimes happen. But when they do, I like to believe that we, as a community, respond to them in the most gracious way possible. And that is what we've tried to do here... we hope you will agree.
At the end of the day, despite the "surprise" of a few extra entries and a couple more days of voting... everybody wins! Community members now have more chances to win daily prize drawings and will have a greater selection of free skins available to them, contributed under the standard DNN license. Our designers continue to compete in their respective categories with only legitimate entries and have an extra couple of days to promote themselves. And our latest contributor (who was actually one of the first to submit), while at a disadvantage for the Community Favorite voting, is able to participate in the category judging.
Voting is extended through Thursday, May 12th. And we'll be announcing the winners on Monday, May 16th!
