DotNetNuke 6.2 CTP 1: Maximum Roles

DotNetNuke 6.2.0 removes the maximum roles limitation of previous versions.

Many developers are aware that, prior to version 6.2.0, a semi-colon delimited list of roles was saved in the user's cookie.

As the cookie has a fixed size, this effectively limits the number of roles to which a user could belong to about 50 (the actual limit depends on the names used for the roles – shorter role names would increase the maximum limit slightly).

One of the goals of the 6.2 release was to remove this limitation. 

Sometime during the 4.x/5.x time-frame we added a Roles property to the User and we began to cache users on the server side.   A number of approaches were discussed, but it was quickly determined that the use of a cookie to cache the user's roles was now redundant as the cookie expiry of 1 sec was less than the default server-side cache timeout of 3 secs., so the use of a cookie to cache roles has been removed completely, which in turn removes the maximum roles limitation.
