Hello to everyone in the DNN community! I’m a new face on the DNN scene (I started working for DNN Corp on March 3, 2010) and thought the best way to begin my new blog would be to provide a brief introduction.
My name is Jenni Merrifield and I am a User Experience (UX) professional. I have worked in the UX field for over a dozen years, specializing in the interaction design and implementation of web sites and software applications following user centered design methodologies. During my career I have worked for several software companies, both large and small, covering a diverse variety of industries including online games, mobile multimedia, windows security, social media and web content management (Even before DNN! During the first half of my career I was a member of the original development team responsible for the product that would eventually become Microsoft Content Management Server, the features of which were eventually rolled into the latest versions of Sharepoint Portal Server.)
My official title at DNN Corp is “User Interface Developer” however, in addition to GUI design and front-end development, my role includes a mandate to influence DNN Corp development processes from a UX point of view, to engage with the DNN community regarding DNN’s UX initiatives and to encourage the adoption of User Centered Design methodologies throughout the corporation and the community. I intend to use this blog to keep the community in the know and up to date about the UX initiatives at DNN and also to share interesting news and useful information related to the field of User Experience.
On a more personal note, I am a digital artist, a table-top fantasy role-playing gamer (1st love: D&D (3.5 Edition by Wizards of the Coast; 2nd love: Pathfinder RPG by Paizo Publishing) and a convention committee member for VCON, Vancouver Canada’s Convention of Science Fiction and Fantasy. My favourite movie of all time is George Lucas’ Star Wars (the original, i.e., "Episode IV: A New Hope"), my favourite TV show of all time is Joss Whedon’s Firefly and my favourite book of all time is J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. In short, I’m 100% geek-girl and proud of it!
I’m also the mother to Nathan (11), wife to Ron (15 years this August!) and owner of Pandora Purrrsia (our 5 year old Devon Rex cat).
So, there you have it – Jenni in a Nutshell! Look for more posts from me on various UX topics in the not-too-distant future!
