The Events module will be enhanced and improved over time. We have good and very good ideas to do this. But the current Events module is using a table structure that has some flaws (see my forum post for the details) and we want to correct this before moving on. We need table statistics of real life usage to decide on the what and the how.
Enthousiastic as I am, I could not wait and prepared a newsletter for our beta testers telling something about the progress on the module and explicity asking them for help: please execute a small SQL script (which was provided) from the host menu and send us back to results. Time needed to do this? 10-20sec? 30? Well if you are w o r k i n g v e r y s l o w l y, i t m i g h t b e 6 0 s e c , m a x.
That action filled most of my Saterday evening, sitting on my chair, laptop on my lap, top! Over 250 e-mails were send from our beta site (www.DNNEvents.net), late in the evening.
As a young boy on his 5 th birthday (which is less then 10% of reality) I rose early in the morning to watch my mailbox, expected it to be flooded with the resulting statistics e-mails. WHAT? Only 1 e-mail on this point. Yes you read it correctly: 1 (one, een, uno, ein, un, it, bir, unos). Is my connection down? Mailbox kaput? Internet not working? No, nothing at all, just 1 e-mail, no more.
Well, I reasoned, let's make it more public: put it in a forum posting. That will certainly attract the attention of Events users. Almost a day has gone by. And I received 1 extra respons. From a fellow team member.
Sighh.. Why am I doing this. IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?
Over 500.000 people registered at this site, surely there must be more then 2 who are willing to spend 30sec to give feedback? This is OPEN SOURCE you know, where people donate there time for the benefit of all. And I, you, he, she, we form the "all". Get in action. Do something for the community, which is also yours truly selfs.
