The last beta for DotNetNuke 6.2 is now available. That’s correct, this is the last beta. That means we are feeling really good about where we are with the product. As with previous beta releases, we still have some issues to work through, but we are getting close to the public release of DotNetNuke 6.2.
The excitement is building for DotNetNuke 6.2. If you haven’t downloaded any of the other preview releases you need to get started now! DotNetNuke 6.2 offers the social tools that users and admins expect to see in websites today. Social isn’t something that you just install or add-on to your site. Social isn’t optional anymore and DotNetNuke is focused on helping you build successful websites.
The key social components such as relationships, activities, messaging and notifications are now at the core of DotNetNuke. We have spent several months integrating social capabilities into the platform so that the experience is as seamless as possible. Many CMS products talk about having social features, but DotNetNuke is one of the few, if not the only one, that incorporates social capabilities at the very core of the application. Our social tools aren't something you install on top of your site. We don't ask you to download a different package or a series of add-ons. We provide you with the social tools that you need right from the start. The final release for 6.2 is not too far away. Don't be the last one to know about all the exciting new features and capabilities in DotNetNuke. Go download the beta today!
What’s New for Beta 2
User Profile
The User Profile page has been completely rebuilt. We needed User Profiles to have multiple child pages. This would allow for the most flexibility by still following the typical DotNetNuke page and module structure. Developers can now create User Profile specific modules so that views can be customized for the particular user. New installations and portals will automatically see the new profile and page structure. The ViewProfile module has also been enhanced so that you have greater control over the design. You can now use multiple instances of the ViewProfile module on a page so that you can create a design that meets the needs of your site. |

Console Module
The new multi-page structure for User Profiles and Social Groups created a small problem initially. We needed a menu system that would not only render the links properly, but also manage access to the various pages in a manner that was very dynamic. The Console Module, after a few enhancements, serves this purpose very well. New settings have been added to allow you to manage access to the child pages based upon the mode that is being used. All the necessary settings are configured for you automatically for the new profile. Take a look at the various settings and let us know what you think. |

Social Groups
One of the challenges that we have had with Social Groups is coming up with the easiest way for you to get started with module. Most people that are using Social Groups will need two pages. One page will be for the listing of all the groups. The second page will be for viewing the group. We have added an Auto Configure option that will help you get started with just one click. The Auto Configure will create the necessary pages along with adding the necessary modules to those pages. A more detailed blog about Social Groups will be posted later this week. |

Bug Fixes
The team has been working extremely hard to stabilize DotNetNuke 6.2. This Beta release includes dozens of bug fixes. We will continue to address as many issues as possible. We will address all issues related to new features before the final release. We do not want to release any of the new features in 6.2 with known issues. As of today, the team is now focused on stabilization in preparation for the official 6.2 release. |
