Earlier today, I was surprised to find an email in my inbox that demanded certain actions to be taken on behalf of one of my client's website user. The email came directly from that client and the message text left no doubt in my mind that I was considered the responsible party.
I, however, clearly remembered not having my email address listed anywhere on the website - moreover, the site doesn't take a use of Feedback module or the like, rather lists the appropriate email addresses in a this AT that DOT org kind of fashion. So, I was intrigued to say the least.
A quick poking around revealed something silly - the old site that we've remade had a page Privacy.aspx and that page displayed privacy information for the site. The new site has a number of pages dedicated to privacy policies and neither one is called Privacy. So, turned out that one of the organizations listed the old url as a source of Privacy practices for the company's website and, when visited, that page displayed not the real company privacy policy details but the general message included by default.
Needless to say, I had to deal with the situation. And the simplest solution was to overwrite a default Privacy message and Terms of Use message found under Admin > Languages > Language Editor screen to a simple javascript redirect document.location.href='thisisreallythepage.aspx'
Any better solutions out there?
