New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

The use of the Community Blog is covered by our Community Blog Guidelines - please read before commenting or posting.

Taking control of the Banner module

The banners module is one of DNN's old time classic modules. Both the module and the Vendors directory have seem some changes lately, but the central functionality is the same - you can display banners on a page which update when the page is refreshed or moved away from and then back to.

It often seems that the module takes license to display banners as it likes, but this is not the case - chose carefully the order in which you add your banners as this determines the order in which they appear in the module. Updating modules does not change the order - so add them in the right order the first time. By chosing the right sequence you can achieve interesting result - for example I have recently used the banners module inside the ZDModuleWrapper to enable 3x3 different colored banners to always appear on the page at a different time. That is there is always 3 banners of a different color showing at one time and never two of the same color.  Once the website is launched, I'll add a link to my blog so you can see the results.

Hi,

Can you provide the steps to link the Vendors & the Banner module. I was unable to find options to link the same in the Banner Options.

Also, is it possible to use the Banner module without the Vendors? As in just give some images & Url through the Banner options?

Hi Chitra,

Once you create a Vendor and add one or more banners to that vendor account you will be able to display banners in the Banners module. You can find step by step information on adding a vendor account and adding banners to a vendor account by going to online help at http://www.dnnsoftware.com/help. Search on the keyword "Vendors".

Remember that there is one Vendors module on the Host console and one on the Admin console. Host Banners can be used on any site in your dnn installation, whereas Admin Banners are only available on that particular site.

You cannot use the Banners module without Vendors, however you could simply add an image with a link to the HTML module. You could also enable link clicking on the HTML module link to track clicks on the link. The benefit of the Vendors module is it offers more tracking and you can send reports to Vendors.

Good luck and enjoy. :)
