DotNetNuke on Windows Vista

I have been working on Vista the last few weeks (Build 5472) and last night finally got around to getting DNN up and running in the development environment.  There are a few changes and gotchas from XP and this is what I found:

• Install IIS 7 as a Windows Component
• Install the IIS 6 Compatability metabase
• Install SQL 2005 SP1 - SQL 2005 has compatability issues and warns you during installation.  Install anyway and then install the SP1.  This applies to Express Editon as well.
• DNN has to run in IIS and there are new security measures in Vista so to get the DotNetNuke.sln to open correctly you need to right click the VS2005 Icon and select "Run As Administrator" this is what they call "Elevated Privileges".
• Then open the solution file inside VS2005 and it should open and build correctly.
• If you use Windows Authentication to access the database like I do you will need to add the NTAUTHORITY\IUSR user as the dbo to the SQL 2005 database.
• Also dont forget to set the NETWORK SERVICE user security on the physical folder.  It apears you dont need to switch on simple file sharing anymore to do this either.

After this had DNN 4.3.3 up and running perfectly. 

Now to convert the Help module to DNN 4 :)
