New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

Thank you for your Movember Support!

So earlier this year I had this thought, DotNetNuke should do something in support of Movember (the annual month of November where you grow a mustache for the month in support of raising awareness for Men’s health). I thought about it, and thought about it, and about let it slide right by without doing anything about it. But at the last minute I got things rolling, and I must say, it turned out way better than I had imagined!

We started things off encouraging employees within DotNetNuke Corporation to join up, pledging to start freshly shorn on November 1st and grow their upper lip warmers for the entire month. We got great traction within the company so we also decided to open the team up to outside community members.

Overall we had 38 members on our team, raising (at time of posting) $6,764 for Movember. I was shocked, I was going to be happy if we raised $1k total as a team, much less have two individuals (myself and Will Strohl) on the team each hit $1k.

After we started getting a little traction early in the month I made the offer that if I raised $1k I would shave my head. Whoops, lesson learned on that one! I was ready and willing to do it, but didn’t expect that I would actually be doing it.

At the last minute on the 30th of Movember, DotNetNuke Corporation stepped up and donated $1500 to the team, $500 of that going towards my personal totals putting me over the $1k number, and thus bringing out the hair clippers, right in the middle of a company meeting/lunch we were having for Movember. There on the spot, my head was trimmed with the clippers and then cleaned shaved, in the conference room with a bowl of warm water, and a lady’s razor.

I had fun with it, and while my wife isn’t a fan of it, I would gladly do it again for such a great charity response that we received for the month! Will Strohl posted some photos of the scalping on his Flickr page.  You can also watch a time lapse video of the whole event.

Everyone in the company who participated took a before and after photo (or at least nearly everyone) and I put a quick little slide show/video together so you can see those shots.

A big thanks to everyone again for participating and donating to the cause. I’d like to highlight Chris Csanyi as the DotNetNuke community member who raised the highest total with $487 towards his Movember campaign.

Thanks again, and I look forward to doing this all again next year with a higher donation goal!
