I have promised to let everyone know what I have planned for the Media Module. This is a very important, and for me, a very exciting question. When I first got asked to be part of the team to help build this module, I was only going to help. Then various things happened to leave only me to manage it. I was and continue to be very nervous about that, as most of my work doesn’t involve media. So, the re-write of the last release required extensive research on my part. I learned and continue to learn a lot about how all of you want to use and render media on your websites.
Keeping the above in mind, I have laid out the following roadmap for the module. This is a very ambitious list of features and improvements, and they are already listed on the issue tracker. Feel free to vote for your favorites, or add your own! :)
Remember, this is an open source project. It’s future depends on you just as much as it depends on me. I just manage the code for you. :)
Disclaimer: As we get closer to the future releases, there will almost certainly be changes as to which version will have which features, depending on how the scope of the features get defined. In addition, there will likely be releases in between the two versions you see below.
Version 04.00.00
This release will focus on upgrading the module to get closer to where it already should be. I hope the planned features reflect this goal.
Version 05.00.00
This version will be focusing on adding more feature to the module. Keep in mind, that this version is likely going to be pretty far out in the future. That being said, there is plenty of wiggle room to add anything you’d like to see here.
