New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

The use of the Community Blog is covered by our Community Blog Guidelines - please read before commenting or posting.

Announcing the DNN Documentation Center

DocCenter

Microsoft has always been viewed as a developer friendly company.  Almost every product they build is extensible and includes in-depth documentation. All of this documentation is maintained in the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN), which is one of the premiere developer documentation centers in the world.

Since DNN was first created, thousands of pages of documentation and hundreds of videos have been created. Much of this documentation is available at various locations on DNNSoftware.com and in a few external sites. Documentation is available as help files, pdfs, wiki articles, blog posts, videos and PowerPoint slide-decks. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to find the information you are looking for, and when you do find it, it is not always clear if the documentation is up to date.

DNN 8.0 Release Candidate

Community Logo

DNN 8 is almost complete.  Later this week we plan to launch DNN 8. Today I am happy to announce that you can get an early peak at what we expect to be in that final build.  Go and download the DNN 8 RC now.

Since we released the Beta in December, the team has been hard at work closing out issues and generally working to ensure a solid, stable DNN 8 release.  In that time we have fixed 113 issues.  As a result we feel that DNN 8 is almost ready to go.

Extending the DNN 8 Module Challenge

Code2In October I announced the DNN 8 Module Challenge.  I challenged DNN developers to create modern DNN 8 modules using the new DNN 8 MVC and SPA module types. While I know that some developers were able to get started right away, others were waiting for new module templates to aid in building their modules.  Other developers were also waiting on certain platform features to be completed in order to build their modules. Our goal with the contest is to make it as easy as possible for developers to participate and to encourage development of modules that really show off the power of the DNN platform.

DNN 8 Beta Released

Community LogoDNN 8 has reached another major milestone. After more than 9 months of development, I am pleased to announce that DNN 8 Beta has been released.  In the month since DNN 8 CTP 7 was released, the team has spent a lot of time reviewing the features planned for DNN 8 and working to stabilize the release.

DNN 8 has a long list of features.  Since the beginning we have been very focused on delivering valuable features that address key developer challenges.  With the introduction of MVC and SPA module types, DNN 8 will provide more options for developers, and allow them to build modules using their .Net framework of choice.  In addition, we have been working to provide additional authentication options for developers using the DNN Service Framework.

Announcing the DNN 8 Module Challenge

Code2Since DNN was first introduced in 2003, modules have been the primary method for building DNN extensions. While we have made many advancements in module development over the years, fundamentally, all modules have been based on the Web Forms framework. In DNN 8 we are introducing the MVC and SPA module types. These module types enable developers to break out of the web forms development paradigm and instead use modern web development practices and frameworks within the DNN platform. These new module types follow many of the standard conventions for MVC and AJAX based development, while still providing full integration with the DNN platform. These new modules types are designed to give developers more choice in how they build DNN modules. Continue Reading »

DNN Platform 7.4.2 is Released

DNNReleaseI am happy to announce that DNN 7.4.2 is now available for download. What started out as a relatively small maintenance release has turned into one of our largest maintenance releases ever.  We spent a lot of time working to resolve a number of password management and multi-language issues along with a few performance enhancements.  In total, we ran well over 5000 manual and automated tests on this release with a 99% pass rate.
