About

New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

The use of the Community Blog is covered by our Community Blog Guidelines - please read before commenting or posting.

New Community Site: DNN-Connect.org

We’re thrilled to announce that we have launched a new DNN community website dedicated to the DNN platform. A number of DNN community veterans (some of them DNN MVPs) have joined forces under the banner DNN-Connect. And after a couple of months... Continue Reading »

This Open Source Thing is Cool. How Can I Help? An op-ed.

I can think of two reasons why you’d be a DNN Platform addict. Either you think it’s an awesome tool to make some money or you think you can make some money using this. I’m kidding. There is a second group. Those that itch to work on something bigger than they would otherwise be able to work on, together with some of the sharpest programming minds on the planet. Obviously I’m not excluding you’re here for both reasons. But the focus of this post is on the second group. Those that have been bitten by the Open Source bug. Continue Reading »

Blog Module Reborn

I’m happy to announce a new release of the one and only “official” DNN Blog module. And it’s not just some new tweaks here, some bugfixes there. It’s a complete rewrite of this module. I know. That sounds crazy. And it is. But there were some good reasons to do this. In this blog post I’ll elaborate on those reasons and some of the highlights of the new module. Continue Reading »

Templating. Or, the art of making complicated things simple.

So templating is one of those other subjects that can lead to a bar brawl at a developer conference. The mechanism I’m discussing here is something I have proposed be added to the DNN framework, but on both occasions that I presented it, it led to ve... Continue Reading »

The module management mess

Of modules and men As you are probably aware, DNN’s extensibility model allows me to create a “module” which is delivered as a zip file, uploaded by the host user, and then instantiated on a DNN page. You’ll then see a rectangular box appear on the ... Continue Reading »

DNN Social: why you should take note

In this blog post I intend to explore the potential of DNN Social. This is an umbrella term for the bits and pieces in the framework that allow users to interact with each other reminiscent of Facebook. It includes modules/APIs called “messaging”, “j... Continue Reading »

Introducing DNN Translator: a new translation tool for DotNetNuke

As most of you are aware, DotNetNuke has rolled out with 5 extra languages over the past year: German, Spanish, French, Italian and Dutch. These translations are done by trusted partners under contract so DNN Corp can assure their quality and them be... Continue Reading »

Advanced Module Development: Settings Management

Hi there again. Today’s topic for some deep exploration is how to manage your module’s settings in code. As I stated in my previous posts (here and here), most examples of DotNetNuke module development out in the wild are fine for a first... Continue Reading »

Advanced Module Development: The Data Layer

In my previous post I offloaded some of my ideas about setting up one’s module development project. In this instalment I’ll be looking at another aspect of module development: the data layer. Again, these hobbyhorses are not meant to be normative. Wh... Continue Reading »

Ramblings from the Module Dev Lab

For all the marketing hype positioning DotNetNuke as a world class CMS (Content Management System), to me it’ll always be the ultimate .net Web Application Framework (WAF?). DNN began as a web app framework and in my eyes, it will always be just that... Continue Reading »
