I want to authenticate DNN website using an external api. I have tried modifying the login page of dnn and able to authenticate without connecting to db. But after going to home page it is still connecting to dnn db and checking roles. i want to modify this code and check role using my external api. can anyone help on this.

the standard approach for this is to code a custom authentication provider - http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/... (note: this page used to have links for a few projects which authenticated using 3rd party databases, but I checked the other day and both returned 404's so I removed them)

Thanks Cathal,

I have tried custom authentication provider from the given page:- Creating-your-own-Authentication-Prov...

But it is still connecting to the same dnn db. I want to write my own code to get user and roles from my external api. Please suggest me.

You can use the Extermal Database Authentication module from Iowa Computer Gurus (http://www.iowacomputergurus.com/prod...). This is a nicely designed module, and comes with lots of documentation. It's a fairly simple matter to modify the module to make calls to a webservice or other API to accomplish the authentication.
