I'm working on configuring active directory 5.0.4 everything is working as expected except when a user first visits the site they receive a popup requesting a username and password instead of being taken to the home page. If you hit cancel you'll be redirected to /DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/ActiveDirectory/WindowsSingin.aspx with a 401 error. But if you then enter the base url again you won't be prompted again, until I assume the session expires.

I've looked through the settings I can find but can't find where to turn this initial challenge off and only ask for credentials when the user clicks login.

Site in question is http://retail.resmac.us

When an AD user is not connected to its DotNetNuke account must be connected to this authentication only.  If the DNN account not exist it have to be created.

If I'm understanding correctly this means that it's not possible to have anonymous users on a site that has AD authentication?

Incorrect Matthias, the AD provider creates the account if it doesn't already exist.

Tangeleno, the popup you're seeing is being generated by IIS. What you need to do is have the site in either the Trusted Sites or Local Intranet sites list. On your domain this can be done via Group Policy. If you're also going to have external users hitting the site from a non-domain computer then you need to set the Auto Login IP Address in the settings to your internal network IP address range.

Hmmm your reply to Matthias wasn't there when I posted. If you still have questions about anonymous users let me know.
