DNN Version 5.6.3

Forum Version 5.0.2

Hi all, I need to simplify the editor in the forum so that registered users only see basic functions (as per this site) We are running 5.6.3 at the moment and an upgrade to 6+ is not an option at this time due to compatibility issues with other 3rd party modules in use on the site. Is there a way to set an editor template based on Roles?

Cheers,
Andrew

Anyone found a solution for this? I can't spot one so far...

Hi Andrew,

Which editor are you using? I'm guessing FCK?

Firstly, I don't know whether you can configure the toolbar per role in FCK but one thing to note if you ever do upgrade the site to DNN 6.x is that FCK won't work after the upgrade (FCK is outdated and hasn't been updated since 2008). You would normally then switch to the DNNRadEditor, which does support toolbar configuration per role.

Alternatively, you can use the CK Editor (successor to FCK) which can be downloaded from CodePlex http://dnnckeditor.codeplex.com/ and will work with DNN 5.6.3 (and continue to work in DNN 6.x). Do read the Read Me file that is included in the download zip as you need to install the correct version.

I'm pretty sure that the CK toolbars can be configured per role, the CodePlex page would seem to support that.

Doesn't really answer your query but hope that helps anyway!

Thanks for that, I'll check CK out. I'm using the RadEditor by the way but cant see any way to lock it down for a user group.
