Active Forums vs. Dnn Forums.
So we want to downgrade the forum module to the Active forum module! What's wrong with you all. The dnn forum is great and smokes the Active forum. Maybe if RadEditor was used and better permissions for active forum it might compair. Keep DNN forum, as active forum to use with all of its abilities needs Active Social = no more free dnn with any social integration. Next will be the blog module, Twitter integration was taken out for the reason to sell us that. ability with Active social. Feedburner and  Twitter feed fix that and do it better than Active social could, with better internet positioning possibilities, Its easy to add mail and social integration to the dnn forum module.

I have seen several posts that Active Forums is going to replace DNN forums in 6.0 - is this true?

If it is true - I am on DNN 5.6.1 and am looking to add a Forum solution for the first time to my site - which should I use the lite Free Active Forum or the DNN forum?

Judy, check out Shaun's Blog regarding DNN Corp's acquisition of Active Modules

The second to last paragraph gives the infomation regarding Active Forums. This will happen as from DNN 6.0 which will be the next release (second quarter of 2011).

Thanks Don, its nice to hear some good words about the module even though its being retired! As the author of the module, I really do appreciate it. I do, however, want to clarify a few things.

  • I will be working with Will M (Active Modules) to help him anywhere I can make Active Forums 'more complete'.
  • The Twitter integration from the blog was removed because of Twitter API changes and it never being finished properly, not because of Active Social (It was decided long before Active Forums was even being discussed).
  • The idea of social sharing will not be restricted to pay only DotNetNuke products, all core modules and Forge projects are free to do as they see fit. I expect any social sharing solution we come up with to be freely available to all module developers (otherwise, its somewhat useless IMO).

According to Will Morgenweck's blog, integration of ActiveForums and ActiveSocial is scheduled for DNN 6.2 (Q3 2011). There will be a migration path from Core Forums and current ActiveForums versions
