Is there a way to specify a querystring that would let the default value of the selected category be sent into the module? This would be helpful from other points on the site to link to one module but specify the category...

Thanks

is anyone monitoring these forums? Perhaps there is a commercial module that will solve my problem?

There is a commercial product that will do just what I need..

http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=242&PackageID=8018

The product is low cost... and supports specifying the subject by querystring.
