 When I try to edit a document file the rich text editor won't load.  If I select the radio button in the edit mode it has no effect.  Only once did selecting rich text editor allow me to access this feature. When I logged on the next day the text editor was gone. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you  add some javascript either by using skin or other components, which might interfere with FAQ AJAX? 

I suggest to disable AJAX in module settings.
