I have a media library in a mysql database hosted on godaddy.  I am a little familiar with working with PHP, but not ASP.  I need to create a DNN page that retrieves data from the database to generate the page.  I added the connection string to the web.config file with the database information, but when I add the asp code to the dnn html module, it doesn't do anything.  Any help would be great.

Thanks.Tom

You cannot add ASP code to the HTML module, even in HTML mode. ASP code are server side instructions (similar to PHP), and the HTML module displays text stored from a database. If you enter ASP code there, it will be displayed, not executed.

You need to develop a DNN module for your needs. If you are not familiar with ASP.Net programming, you should get these skills first (i.e. learn C#, or VB.Net), and then find out how to write extensions for DNN.

Best wishes
Michael

OK. thanks. So since I'm not a programmer, I'm gonna have to learn this stuff.  Is there any module that will allow me to provide a SQL string and have it produce a page.  It almost seems easier for me to learn how to write an ASP page that displays the SQL data verses writing an entire module.

Well, you can use the Reports module I guess.

There are some modules around which are able to display SQL data, with more or less flexible possibilities to format the output. Explore the DNN Store and/or Codeplex.

The Custom Form and List module could also be of interest.

Best wishes
Michael
