I last did this in 4.9.5 of DNN but we are currently running 5.6 and seems that we have a lot more items getting created than before in terms of GUID's on the TabModules table. I did see this old post where is some what of a good idea but again would need to figure out what should be removed to make sure I don't leave any orphans.

you should use DNN API instead of inserting items directly into the database. The API will take care of all database changes to be made.
