Hi,

I had a custom modification to \admin\skins\User.ascx.cs.  This was working fine on our 7.4.1 site.  After an upgrade to 9.0.1 I came to reapply the mod to the file.  The file is no longer there.  The user.ascx file is, but the cs file is gone.  The user.ascx file claims there is a code behind named user.ascx.cs, but it's gone.

I have two questions - what is the modern approach for such custom modifications?  Can I just reinstate the file?  If I do will it be used?

Why has that file gone?  A quick glance at the folder shows that there are almost no .cs files.

Best wishes,

Richard,

I _guess_: It has been compiled and can be found in some DLL file in the bin directory.

It should be possible to write some code that overrides or extends the methods and properties of the defined class, but I think you have to either compile it as well into a dll or place the source file it in the App_Code folder.

Happy DNNing!

thanks to Oliver Hine, DNN Website is now precompiled into DotNetNuke.Website.dll.

You should not modify DNN platform files. Clone the files, e.g. myuser.ascx and myuser.ascx.cs. adjust namespace and apply your modification.
In your Skins, you need to adjust sko registration to point to your modified skin object
