Why not have a Readme in the ZIP, which contains steps to take so one can start using the source code.

I have search this web site and the web, but was not lucky enough to find appropriate information.

Thankx for considering...

Cheers Harry

there is a readme.txt in website/documentation which has some useful information, I could certainly see about adding some content there if that works for you, or were you thinking that the file needs to exist somewhere else?

Hi Cathal... thank you very much!

I would appreciate if there was an README in the root of the zip.
I would assume, that I could put the source where ever I want. If a specific folder needs to be in place, one should consider of change this.
I would further assume, that I can run the two ".bat files without giving errors.
I would further assume, that when I open the VS solution, that all projects are available (not showing unavailable) and that all project compiles.
I would further assume, that (localdb)\v11.0 be the default for the database (as it is the default in VS 2013).
Finally I would assume that the latest version of Visual Studio is supported (VS 2013).

That are a lot of request, but it would make it easier to use the source, get new versions of the source, compile and finally deploy it.

Thankx for considering.
Cheers Harry

Harry,

I don't really understand what you're trying to do, but if you want to change the source code and recompile DNN to fix bugs, add new features etc.: It's all on GitHub (https://github.com/dnnsoftware/Dnn.Pl...). Just create your fork, and you're done, and if you want to contribute some of your work, start a pull request.

Best wishes
Michael

Hi Michael, thankx for the fast reply!

I just try to provide some feedback, for what I encounter as a newbie to make it eventually possible, to start faster.

I did not know that there is a github project. I just cloned it and opened DNN_Core solution. As it is the case with the soruce.zip I downloaded, the DNN_Platform project is unavailable.

I cannot find information about what is necessary or what the next steps would be to start using it.

I would recommend, to put this information into the README.md file, which is available in the github repository.

Bye the way, why are you hosting the project on github as well as on codeplex. Are they the same?

Cheers Harry
