Sorry, I couldn't  find a specific forum discussing the Events module in DNN, so I just post my question here.

When someone is clicking on an event title in the event calendar of the DNN Events module, they get to an EventDetails page that has the URL ending like this: /Events/tabid/76/ModuleID/542/ItemID/553/mctl/EventDetails/Default.aspx
Is it possible to show a more user friendly URL and show the title of the event in the URL?

We are using some email analytics software and sending out emails to members with links to those event pages, and looking at the analytics results, we see which links were accessed more often, but having the URL so random, we cannot tell which event is that referring to.

Thanks,
Steven

The URL cannot be changed, it is in the basics of the module. And is is not random, it is linked to the content identification.

SEO (title, description) are handled by a template, if the SEO is enabled in the module settings. These templates can be customized (also in the settings).

Also, the module generates a custom search engine sitemap and inserts that into the XML sitemap of the site. So that is a real boost for search engine indexing, if you have submitted the site sitemap to the search engines using webmaster tools of the different search engines.

Hi Ernst,

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

I looked at the Event Module Settings page, and I can't find where to enable SEO. Can you help me with that?

After enabling that, when you click on an event title, does the event detail page have a friendly URL? Do you see the event title in the URL?

Thanks,

Steven

I assume that you are working with the most recent version of DNN Events.

Log in as Admin (or Host), go to your page with the Events module, click the Events settings icon in the icon row at the top right of the module, select tab "SEO & Sitemap" and verify that Enable SEO is checked.

Go to the Settings/Templates tab, select the template "SEO - Page Title" or "SEO - Description" and define the SEO Title and/or Description structure using the Event template tokens.

As I mentioned before, the URL is not configurable, the structure is needed for the way the module has to figure out what event is to be displayed in the detail page.

Thanks Ernst,

It looks like I didn't have the last version, only version 5.1.5, and I had that tab missing, but I upgraded the Events module on my test site to version 6.2.1 now, and I see the SEO & Sitemap tab.

Enable SEO is checked, but I see another section called Sitemap Settings, and the option called "Enable Search Engine Sitemap" is not checked. Should I check that?

So the templates "SEO - Page Title" and "SEO - Description" are only controlling the content of the sitemap file?

I haven't used the sitemap yet (haven't sent to search engines using webmasters tools). I found a file under \Portals\0\Sitemap\ folder called sitemap.xml.

It looks like it shows all the pages from the website, but there is no info about the events. I guess I should enable the option "Enable Search Engine Sitemap", and it will contain all the events detail pages too?

Thanks,
Steven
