I upgraded from 4.0.2 to 5.0.2 and now I get this error:

Forget this... it was not the Events module that caused the problem, it was the OTB Upcoming Event module...

I have the exact same problem.  What did you do to fix it?  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the upcoming events module but that did not fix the problem.

I removed it and I am not using it anymore.

the companion module seems relying on calls to the database directly instead of using the API.
