When a user posts a journal they can choose who can see the post?

Currently it says - "Who will see this?

  • Everyone
  • Community Members
  • Friends
  • Private"

Seem to be a break from the standard DNN security model. Shouldn't DNN security roles & groups appear in the list?

Who are 'Community members'?

It seems to me that it would be very beneficial in a corporate intranet environment to post a journal that certain roles could see e'g' A CEO may post to "Everyone' about a company announcement but may want his 'Leadership Team' only to see another post.

What we don't want is a break from the underlying core permissions and security model in DNN.

Thinking ahead when you introduce groups (which are really just security roles) you may be limited if you follow the current approach.

They're user relationships and not membership of a role (see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W... ) -whilst roles can be semantically similar to relationships they tend to be applied by an admin (i.e. adding a user to a role) whereas the user defines their own relationship status (i.e. a friend is a 2-way agreement) and can opt out of it (i.e. they can reject a friend request but cant reject role membership)

I didnt work on the notifications portion so am not sure if the list is dynamic - hopefully someone else will chip in.

As for posting items to specific groups/roles, I think that's probably something better done with a messaging system rather than a journal -and a social messaging system (allowing messages to roles) is part of 6.2.0

Seems this is still buggy in the 6.2.2 release:(
If I post to "everyone", it works as expected (everyone can see the post).
But if I post to "Community Members" I expect this post to be seen by all registered users -
but in fact NO ONE can see the post! ...Even if I "add friend" and "follow" someone (and he does the same with me) he still can't see my posts if I post them for "Community Members" or "friends".
So the only possibility to make other users see my journalpost is to posting it for "everyone"?!:(
