I had a DNN site with Arvixe as my hosting provider.  It’s was running for 3 years and for the past 2 with very little problems.  Last week I came to work and I had a 500 Internal Server Error.  After going back and forth with my hosting provider I decided reinstalling DNN was my only option (After a lot of research I think the original site went down because it came online earlier than the SQL server we crashed after they rebooted the server). 

I’ve tried to reinstall the software but there as been no change.  I can’t even make it to the Install Wizard.  I’m still getting a 500 Internal Server Error.  The hosting provider keeps blaming the application but I’ve tried to reinstall this 5 times now and I always get a 500 Internal Server Error.  Because this is 3rd party hosted I have limited access to the server but I have created a new virtual directory for the new instance to live in.  I can upload a test.aspx page that displays outside the DNN folder.  If I put it in the DNN folder I get a 500 Internal Server Error.  What can be going wrong?

Hi Carolyn, try taking a look at the Portals/_default/logs folder, it has some log files and maybe there would be clues there as to why you are getting a 500 error.

Daniel, thank you for your reply!  I didn't know about that logs folder and in the future I am checking there first.

After a week of going back and forth with our hosting provider it ended up being a server issue and I was just now able to complete the install!
