I have taken a backup of my site and would like to setup a development site on my local computer running windows 7 / IIS.

A. Change the web.config to connect to your local database.

B. Change the url in the PortalAlias table in SQL Server

Make sure the url is also in the Bindings on your website in IIS

Thanks for the reply.I am still unable to view the site however.

 This is what I have in web.config

    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005/2008 Express -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="server=localhost;database=mydb;uid=myusername;pwd=mypassword;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

I changed the url in the PortalAlias table in SQL Server to the following:

I am unable to add the same url to the bindings in IIS because it contains illegal characters.
Am I supposed to add something else there?

Your original post has port 85 in the request. Is that correct? If so why?

Yes, that is correct I am using port 85. I already have another site running on port 80.
