Hi There,

Quick (hopefully simple!) question to someone in know:

I created a page and gave it the url  "/customer" and selected one of the templates from the theme we are using. Because we're using a template I had to delete a lot of the pre built modules and add some existing modules from other pages and after doing all this I realised that it would be a big time saver to leave this page as a hidden blank page which could be copied for setting up future pages. I renamed this page to "Blank Template" and changed the url to "/blank".

Now the copying system with the blank page is working great but for some reason I can no longer create a page now at the url "/customer". It just tells me that the url is not available. How can I free up the "/customer" url again without deleting my new blank template page (which presumably is locking this out)?

 Thanks a lot.

URLs are stored in the database and since you created a page called "customer" that URL is stored (even if the page is deleted). It's still kept because the page could potentially be restored from the Recycle Bin.

The way to "unlock" or free up that URL is to delete the page and then to also remove it from the recycle bin. That process will remove is from the TabURLs table and allow the URL to be used again. In cae you are not an Admin you will have to have Admin rights in order to empty items from the Recycle Bin.

Hope this helps

Hi Clint,

Not really no, I don't want to delete this page really. I have since found a solution (well hack really):

You need to open up the database using a SQL client and then delete the unwanted rows from the TabUrls table. After deleting the rows I then had to do a full reset of IIS Server to push it through and free up the Url.

To anyone who maybe reading this, opening up the database file (if you went for the integrated database option) can be a massive pain in the arse. You basically need to connect to your local SqlExpress instance and then "mount" the database files which are under in /app_data folder in the site. In my case did not mount because I didn't have permissions on the file so I had to modify the security permissions on the Database.mdf and Database.ldf files to give myself access (which may in turn stopped the IIS worker process from reading the file so I had to alter the running identity of the website too).

Long story short, if you find yourself in this position then either prepare yourself for pain or take Clint's advice and trash the page. A bit of an oversight on the platform really and hopefully something that will be fixed in future patches (when I changed the URL on a page through page settings please give me the option to trash all previous URLs)
