I am having a problem with the user registration on one of my DNN sites. Someone has decided to target a script which appears to create SPAM users. As far as I can tell they are using real emails and user details but for people without their permission. I am getting about 50 spam users registered every two hours. My attempts so far  have been unable to stop it. I have tried CAPTCHA, Verification and IP Blocking. None of these has stopped the problem.

The accounts are never verified so I can delete them.

One thing I have discovered is that the DNN default is for user emails on so if someone registers an account with another persons email they can then send email to that person. I have set this module to admin but could a script still access it?

Does anyone have any good ideas on how I could try to stop this. Also can you shed any light on why this might be happening.

Hi Oliver,

It's an issue most DNN sites have been dealing with since May - though most have been using bogus emails. Check out Bruce Chapman's excellent article:
