I have a client's site in a DNN 7.2.1 installation with only one portal (Portal 0). Being that there is only one portal, portal 0 is also the "Host portal". We have registration setup as "Private" so that the site administrator has to approve new user accounts before they can access most of the content of the site. When a new user registered both the site administrator account and the host account are receiving emails. Is there a way to stop the host account emails other than setting an invalid email address? An invalid host email will stop the emails but I suspect that records will still get added to the DNN messaging tables and possibly event log entries because of the invalid email address. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Currently it's designed to send notification to anyone that's part of the Administrator role in the portal. Is your Host part of Administrator role? You may consider removing him/her, but it may have other implications. You could add an Idea in the Community Voice to not send email to SuperUsers.

Ash, IMHO using Administrators role would be easiest and most flexible atm.
The single improvement I could Imaging would be an additional PortalNotification role, to be configured in Site Settings (Default to Admins).

Sebastian & Ash... Thank you both for your replies!  After further investigation I discovered the admin user HAS NOT been getting the emails.  After a lot of trial and error I found that I had to UNCHECK the option "Receive user registration notification" in the "Registration" section on the xxx tab of Site Settings.  According to the help text this option will enable the site administrator to get emails when a new user registers.  It seems that the logic is backwards and I will submit a bug report on this issue.  As for the Host user getting the email I have addressed this by setting the email address of the host account to a non-existant email address (not ideal but usable).

I have not entered any bug reports in a loooong time. I am trying to create an account on the new site but when I get to the "create an account" page I immediately see an "An unknown error has occurred." error at the top of the page and when I try entering my email and the user verification code it just keeps prompting me for the same info. How does one get an account so I can enter a bug report?
