Several times I have installed DNN (last try on Community 7.1.2), set up the superuser credentials, and run the site. It works fine at first, looks great, etc, but after trying to browse it a second time fails. I get only a DNN error  shown below. (null object I think, though the logs don't show much detail). It seems as if it destroys itself on a subsequent page request. All requests to the site result in an error. I'm a bit stumped. I'm wanting to develop a module extension.... Anybody know what's going on?

Ok, I figured it out. I was using a new Visual Studio template for a DNN module project. If your DNN web has a virtual directory created in the DesktopModules, it will prevent the site from running after the first time you build your module project in VS. I removed the virtual directory in IIS, then reset it in the VS project configuration page. Who would have known?

I figured it out. I had set up my DNN site, but subsequently ran a DNN Module Project build operation in Visual Studio. Turns out that-- if there is a virtual directory in DesktopModules , then do a build, your DNN site will no longer work. What I did to fix that was to go into IIS Manager and remove the virtual directory. then, in the Visual Studio project configuration, I re-created the virtual directory in the Project Properties. There's a button for that in VS 2017. Doing it that way appears to set things right again.  Will wonders never cease?
