Dear DotNetNuke 8 Users,

Please help, with a question about Schedule.

I have a small DotNetNuke site, with about 200 users, with about 1000 page views per day, with about 100 custom pages, with about 100 custom modules.

Below are my current settings for > Host, > Schedule.

Would you recommend any Schedule changes for my site?

Name

Messaging Dispatch

Every 30 Seconds

Purge Cache
not-checked
Every 2 Hours
Every 30 Minutes

Purge Client Dependency Files

Purge Output Cache

Search: Site Crawler

Send Log Notifications

Scheduler Mode:

Please advise.

Thanks.

Yes - I'd change some of them to not run so often.  Specifically:

Messaging Dispatch - would 5 min (or more) be ok?

Purge Module Cache - I'd keep it at an hour (or more). Caching helps you - don't clear it every minute
Purge Output Cache - same idea - why are you clearing it every minute?
Purge Users Online - you can probably turn that off - nobody uses the module to show who's all online.

Site Crawler - I'd set to every 4 or more hours.

Andrew,

I really appreciate your help.

Here is what I did.

Regarding this...

Messaging Dispatch - would 5 min (or more) be ok?

...I set it to Frequency=Every15Minutes

Regarding this...

Purge Output Cache - same idea - why are you clearing it every minute?

...I set it to Enabled=NotChecked

Regarding this...

Purge Users Online - you can probably turn that off

....I set it to Enabled=NotChecked

Regarding this...

Site Crawler - I'd set to every 4 or more hours.

...I set it to Frequency=Every8Hours

So, to recap, as of 11:17 AM 06/08/2018, my new settings are...

Name= Messaging Dispatch
Enabled= Checked
Frequency= Every 15 Minutes
RetryTimeLapse= Every 1 Minute

Name= Purge Module Cache
Enabled= Checked
Frequency= Every 1 Hour
RetryTimeLapse= Every 1 Minute

Name= Purge Schedule History
Enabled= Checked
Frequency= Every 8 Hours
RetryTimeLapse= Every 1 Hour

Name= Search: Site Crawler
Enabled= Checked
Frequency= Every 8 Hours
RetryTimeLapse= Every 1 Hour

All others Schedule items have Enabled= NotChecked

Please LMK if you have any more good ideas.

Also, if you have any more information about exactly what "Purge Module Cache" means then please LMK as I would be very grateful to understand it better. For many of my custom modules, there is search-data and other data that is updated frequently, generally retrieved on a user event (button click) to reload the page (or grid) with the latest-and-greatest search data from an external database. It works fine now, and I always get the latest data, but I would not ever want DNN to serve a page that DNN guesses would be "recent enough" for me, so it would good to know more about "Purge Module Cache" just in case.

Thanks.

Hey Mark,

As long as your custom module isn't actually caching anything within your code - the module cache shouldn't affect it at all.  I'm sure it has more to do w/ the module settings/permissions, and likely anything you add via the DataCache, but I haven't reviewed the code to actually know for sure.  But again - since your module's internal search isn't cached by you - then you don't have to worry about it being cached.
