Hi, this question asked many times but no exact solution. Like all other people we moved all files with FTP transfer, set an IIS web site, gave required folder permissions but we are testing new one with a subdomain.

Lets assume old web site: www.mysite.com

New one: a.mysite.com

When i check the log file only thing i can get the error below and an empty screen says DNN Error and a Return To site button:

Accepted Answer
Simple answer: Absolutely yes.

DNS needs to point the domain to the site.
IIS needs to be bound to the the domain.
The domain needs to be in the database.

The first one of these gets requests sent from IIS to the website. Internally, the second is needed so that DNN routes the request to the correct portal.

when moving a DNN instance to a new location and you want to use temporary URLs for each domain in your DNN instance (even if it is just a single one), you need to tell DNN about this new address. This information is stored in the database, table PortalAlias, where you might need to adopt the site addresses.

Is it enough to add a new domain alias to table DomainAlias? I can't access to web site so i need to add it manually.

you may just add another alias for your site, if you are not using redirect mode and have another alias marked as primary (there must exist not more than one primary alias per site and language),
