module builds but does not create a dll?

I have a project with multiple modules in it. The main module has a few vb class files in it that contain all of the business logic layer to access the database. For some reason this module has stopped creating a DLL but throws no errors at compile time? any idea where to start looking to trouble shoot. The other strange this is this module started showing errors about the dotnetnuke.entities.modules.portalmodulebase was not defined. I opened the file with the error and the error goes away and I build the module, and there are no errors?

I have the project files zipped up but I don't see where I can share them in this post. I will be happy to share any of the code for some assistance.

I created a new solution and only included this one module in it.

I created a new DNN 8.0.4.226( i know its not the most current ) site with only this one module in it

I build the site and get 70 errors in my module. All of them will go away when I open each of the files in the project.

I do the build again, and no errors, but no DLL

I close all of the files, build and the 70 errors come back.

Each ascx.vb file has error

What kind of visual studio are you using? try using recent version.
make sure your module project references point to the DLLs from the DNN website bin folder.

I am using VS community 2017 version 15.1

I removed the DotNetNuke reference in the project and added it back. Pointed it to the DotNetNuke.dll in the bin folder of the site

Still got the same results
