What is the best process to apply a template to an existing page? Or can it even be done?  I understand the content will be in goofy places, but the framework would be there.

If not, I guess the best process would be to create a new page with the template and move each module over?  Does that pretty much sum it up?

Thanks in advance.

Doug

I think you are mixing up template and Theme or skin. :-)
You can apply another theme to a page but as the modules are placed to panes (a "zone" in a pane that can contain modules) with a certain name.
The module order will be "mixed up" when the new theme does not have the same pane names (or they are layed out differently).
(when a module was originally in the "RightPane" and the new theme does not have one, DNN will move it to the ContentPane. Which is one of the reasons every skin must have a pane with that name, it's like a fallback pane)

But when you do apply a new theme, the "only" thing you need to do is move the modules to the new panes and you should be fine.

(although obviously the new skin has to have panes in 3 columns if that's what you want as a layout)

Hope it's clear. :-)

I do believe he is asking about how to apply a Page Template to an existing page, not just a Theme/Skin.

I am in the same boat that moment.  I want to apply a Page Template to the default Home page, but in the Page's settings there is no setting in there to allow you to apply a Page Template to it.  If you create a new Page you do have an option to select a Page Template to apply to it.  I have been looking for about 3 days now to try and find a way to apply a Page Template to an existing page and have not had much luck.  I saw a post elsewhere about it and they also mentioned that the ability to do that on existing pages was missing.

If you know of any idea on how to do this please let us know.

Thanks!

Yes. You are correct Dorian. I was asking about a page template. I never was able to discover an answer to my problem. I just ended up rebuilding the page and moving on.

AFAIK it's missing in DNN 9 (which has a completely rebuilt contro panel).
I think it will be back in the next upgrade.
